FAQs

What is the book about?

It's 2017 and the world is ending. Or at least, that is what the scientists are saying. Climate change is here and Joelle, a 25-year-old Harvard grad, is working 70 hours a week on a television show that is getting canceled. What's worse? She's never found love, or even, dependable casual sex. Her job is toxic. Her college comedy magazine is toxic. The smog in Los Angeles is, well, toxic. Joelle is resigned to die in an earthquake, but then, she meets a strange boy on a dating app -- and suddenly, she is questioning everything.

Through diaristic first-person narration and biting humor, Nicole Levin brings us a coming-of-age romance set in the Los Angeles Anthropocene. Diary of A Sad Girl explores what it takes to find purpose and love in a world increasingly more chaotic and absurd.

I couldn't put this book down!

The book is full of incisive emotional resonances couched in a sharp, yet warm, wit. For some readers, the experience will be like reading a funnier, more luminous version of their own diaries. Highly addictive and highly recommend.

5 out of 5 stars. Laugh Out Loud Funny

“Hilarious, Honest, Endlessly Relatable

I'd recommend this book to anyone who has ever felt ridiculous going to work and going on dates when it feels like the world is collapsing. The lovely, Didion-esque writing style makes reading it feel like talking to a friend who doesn't try to talk you out of your sorrows but instead makes you feel understood, and makes you laugh.
